Nov. 16--A Chicago man accused of shooting and wounding two people outside a Dolton home was ordered held Saturday in lieu of $900,000 bail.
One of the victims was involved in a physical altercation Nov. 8 with another man at the home in the 1000 block of East Blouin Drive in Dolton, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Shawn Abraham.
The next day, Dwight Woodard, 33, of Chicago, drove to the home in a blue SUV with Courtney Jones, the father of one of the men involved in the earlier fight, Abraham said.
When they arrived, the male victim who had been in the fight the day before was outside on the porch with friends and family. Woodard stepped out of the car, approached the victim and pulled out a semi-automatic handgun from a bag. He fired seven to eight rounds in his direction, injuring the man and a woman on the porch, Abraham said.
Woodard then got into the passenger seat of the vehicle and Jones drove away from the scene, Abraham said.
Woodard, of the 7300 block of South Peoria Street, was arrested by Dolton police Friday and charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, according to court documents.
Jones, 49, was ordered held in lieu of $500,000 bail Wednesday after being charged with concealing/aiding a fugitive, according to prosecutors and court records.
During a bond court hearing Saturday morning, Woodard's attorney, Steven Weinberg, called the incident "a classic case of self-defense," alleging that one of the victims also had a firearm.
The male victim suffered two flesh wounds on his left rib and right arm while the woman suffered three gunshot wounds to her arm, Abraham said.
