BENGALURU: In one of the highest registrations for the Common Entrance Test (CET) in recent years, over 2.1 lakh students are set to write the exam from June 16 to 18 in the state. At least 14,000 more students are writing this year than last year.
The high numbers are attributed to the no-fail policy adopted for I PU students last year due to Covid. "Usually, I PU pass percentage is around 85%. A 15% increase is expected. However, the jump is not very significant considering the substantial increase in students in II PU this year," said the principal of a government PU college. tnn
Surgical masks must for CET candidates
The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has issued the exam guidelines similar to those of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test. Students will not be allowed to wear full-sleeve dress or jewellery.
They will be barred from wearing clothes which cover head or ears. No electronic equipment, gadgets, pagers, mobiles, Bluetooth, calculators and wristwatches are allowed. Pencils are banned, and students are allowed to carry not more than 2-3 ballpoint pens. Candidates must wear surgical masks, not N-95 or cotton ones.
The question paper will be printed in English and Kannada. In case of discrepancies, the English version will be taken as final. There is no negative marking. KEA has extended the date for completion of the registration process till 6pm on June 7 for those who have not been able to download the admit card.
However, the authority will have the discretion of selecting the exam centre depending on the buffer seats available for last-minute candidates. With this, the number of students could go up by 500, a KEA official said.
