The 2023 MLB All-Star Game is in the rearview mirror.
So it’s time to start focusing on the second half of the season, and that means the most pressing date is approaching: The 2023 MLB trade deadline, which is on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. ET.
There are plenty of tanking teams who will be sellers, and given all the contenders for playoff spots — including multiple Wild Card spots — it could mean another roller coaster ride of a trade deadline like we had last year.
So let’s run through some of the big names who could be dealt by the time that Tuesday rolls around:

SP/DH Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Angels
I don’t think the Angels will deal him? Especially if they’re contending? But … they should.

SP Max Scherzer, New York Mets
A real bummer for Mets fans if it would happen. Thing is: He has a no-trade clause and a player option for next year that would cost whoever gets him $43 million in 2024.
But worth it if you’re a contender!

SS Tim Anderson, Chicago White Sox
Not a great year for him, but maybe a change of scenery is the selling point?

OF/1B Cody Bellinger, Chicago Cubs
A MUCH better season than the last couple. That could mean a contender deals for him.

3B Jeimer Candelario, Washington Nationals
Don’t sleep on him. He’s having a terrific year.

SP Lucas Giolito, Chicago White Sox
If the White Sox are sellers, he could be a great front-end starter for someone else.

Here we go again! He could be traded again if the Padres are out of contention.
