£14,000 raised in matter of hours for family of Wallasey shooting victim Elle Edwards

A fundraiser created for the family of a beautician who was shot dead at a pub on Christmas eve has raised £14,000, less than a day after it was started.

Elle Edwards, 26, was killed in a Christmas Eve pub shooting in which a gunman fired into the doorway 12 times.

Police have confirmed Elle was not believed to have been the intended target of the shooting.

Three series of shots were fired from what sounded like an automatic pistol, CCTV from a nearby shop revealed. Four men were also injured in the incident, one seriously, at the Lighthouse Inn in Wallasey, Merseyside.

A photo of Elle with dad Tim has been released as authorities urged people not to keep quiet with any information about the killing.

Wirral Borough Council leader Jeanette Williamson said: “If you have information, then do the right thing and speak up.”

Elle was celebrating with her friends and sister at the pub in Wallasey Village when she was shot shortly before midnight.

A gunman fired multiple shots towards the front entrance, hitting her in the head and wounding four other men.

Police continue to question a 30-year-old man from Tranmere arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and a 19-year-old woman from Rock Ferry arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

Elle’s sister-in-law, Kirby Fraser, created a GoFundMe page on Tuesday, December 27, to raise money for her family.

The post attached to the page said: “Elle Marlene Edwards.

"You will always be with us, your bright smile and your infectious laugh will never be forgotten. “

"Due to the devastating incident that occurred on Christmas Eve, which resulted in the tragic loss of our beautiful Elle May, I would like to help raise money for our family during these difficult times.”

Cheryl Henderson said: “Beautiful Elle taken for to soon in such a heartbreaking situation Sending lots of love to her family, this is such a cruel world rest in peace beautiful Angel.”

And Sophie Holden wrote: "Such a beautiful young woman taken far too soon in the most awful way, thinking of all your family, friends and work colleagues at this unimaginable time xxx"

Merseyside Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said: “Detectives will be relentless in their work to establish what led up to the incident and who was responsible.

"Anyone involved in arranging this shooting, pulling the trigger and supplying the gun deserves to see every Christmas from behind bars.

"If you know who did this, do the right thing and let us know.”

Seconds after shots are heard in the CCTV, people are seen fleeing in terror.

As fellow pub customers tried to save Elle’s life the gunman fled in a dark-coloured A-Class Mercedes.

A man of 30 held in nearby Tranmere on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, and a woman of 19 from neighbouring Rock Ferry held on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, were being questioned.

Merseyside Police have not confirmed if they are treating Elle’s killing as related to local organised crime groups.

Elle’s was the fifth fatal shooting on Merseyside since August 16, when Sam Rimmer, 22, was killed in Lavrock Bank, Dingle.

This was followed by nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel in Dovecot and Ashley Dale, 28, in Old Swan, both hit in their own homes by gunmen believed to have been targeting others.

Jackie Rutter, 53, was shot dead in Moreton, Wirral, in November by men believed to have been after her family.
