£10 flytrap a hit with shoppers despite 'putrid' smell as summer brings more flies into homes

A popular flytrap has got shoppers talking with some saying it is the best one they've ever used while others say the smell is 'putrid'.

A post in a popular Facebook group has gathered almost 3,000 comments in less than a day with people sharing their success stories using the device in their gardens.

The Buzz STV Fly Catcher costs around £10 for a pack of two from Argos and Amazon and, while it is a little is more expensive than household catchers, shoppers seem to think it's worth it.

However, the biggest drawback has been the smell that has left many people in two minds about buying it and some living with the dread of having to dispose of it.

The price seems to be worth it (Facebook)

In the summer it's common to be bugged by flies and during this year's heatwave we have our windows open, picnics outside and our kitchens are warmer than ever - all perfect for fluttery insects in our homes.

This device, however, is meant to be hung outside to stop flies from coming into the home. They can get in but they can't get out and they gather at the bottom of the trap.

The original post said: "This is a game-changer

"No more flies in the house, it’s been outside for a week and look how much is in there it’s amazing.

"Can’t rate it enough, they sell them in Argos and Amazon."

However, not everyone has been raving about the product.

"Amazing but the smell is putrid," said the first of many complaints about the smell.

Someone else agreed and said: "Wait until you have to empty it. The smell is of death. The worse thing I've ever smelt."

For one person the smell was too much and they said: "They bloody stink. Vile..I'd rather have flies than that smell."

The good reviews tempted one shopper who was hesitant about the price but said: "I got these thinking I'd probably wasted my money but hey what a difference they really work."

Another person offered up this advice: "The smell is so toxic of the dead flies.

"Keep it far away from the home...back of the garden. It does work as it attracts them. But dear god the smell..."

Some shoppers were worried about the environmental impact of the product and said: "They sound good but would be worried about bees. Don't want to kill bees."

But another person said: "The attractant doesn't appeal to bees, you even have to have a different type for wasps."
