1 dead, 9 wounded in Chicago shootings

CHICAGO _ One person was shot dead and at least nine other people, including a Chicago police officer, were wounded in separate attacks within an 11-hour period Friday.

The fatal shooting happened about 10:20 p.m. Friday in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired and found a man who had been shot in the buttocks and on the side of the body, police said. He was pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m.

On Saturday the medical examiner's office released information identifying him as Brendon Frazier, 23, of the same block where he was killed.

The rain poured down as officers searched for evidence on a block lined with manicured lawns and brick homes.

In the Back of the Yards neighborhood, a Chicago police officer was shot in the leg about 1:30 p.m. while she was responding to a call of an armed robbery at a cellphone store, according to officials.

Witnesses pointed out the direction where suspects fled. When officers got out of the car, one or more of the suspects opened fire, prompting police to shoot back, Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said.

The officer was in good condition at an area hospital. Police arrested one person of interest in the case, and they were interviewing another person.

In Logan Square, one man was shot and another man was stabbed during an attack about 8:30 p.m., according to police.

The men were standing on the sidewalk when four men approached. Someone in the group opened fire, striking a 30-year-old man in the back and in the leg.

A 19-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen during the attack. Both men were taken to an area hospital, where their conditions were stabilized.

In other shootings:

_Three people were wounded in a shooting about 11:55 p.m. Friday on the Dan Ryan Expressway, according to Illinois State Police. The three were driving in the northbound lanes when someone opened fire at their car. One woman was shot in the leg and the abdomen, and a second woman was grazed in the neck. A man was shot in the hand, and a second man was injured from flying glass.

_About 11:05 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the head while he was standing on the front porch of a home in the South Shore neighborhood on the city's South Side. The shooter walked up to the man and opened fire. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

_In Englewood on the South Side, a 27-year-old man was shot in the right arm and the back about 9:15 p.m., according to police. He was walking when someone walked up to him and shot at him. His condition was stabilized at an area hospital.

_ Someone shot a 17-year-old boy in the left shoulder and left leg about 8:15 p.m. in Lithuanian Plaza on the South Side, police said. His condition was stabilized at an area hospital. Police did not release any other details about the shooting.

_ Just before 7:55 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in the ankle while he was in the Portage Park neighborhood on the city's Northwest Side, according to police. He was in good condition at an area medical center. Police did not say what led to the shooting or how it happened.
