1 dead, 2 hurt in shootings

Feb. 14--A man was shot to death and two others were hurt in separate shootings early Sunday morning on the city's Northwest and South sides, police said.

A 22-year-old man was found shot to death inside a car around 1 a.m. in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the South Side, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago police spokesman.

Officers responded to the area in the 9700 block of South Sangamon Street to find the man unresponsive inside a car with a gunshot wound to the back, police said.

Police said the man was driving south on the one-way, northbound-only Sangamon when somebody shot him. He then crashed into a parked car, police said.

He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Zala said.

Early Sunday morning, police officers blocked off the intersection of 97th and Sangamon streets with yellow and red tape.

A dark Chevrolet stood inside the crime scene on Sangamon Street south of 97th Street, touching a parked white car with its front. The Chevrolet's driver's side door was open and its lights were on. A police officer shone his flashlight on the car and took pictures of its license plate.

Just north of the intersection of 97th and Sangamon, police officers blocked off an area with red crime tape where several shell casings were found.

No one was in custody as a result of the shooting early Sunday.

Most recently, a 31-year-old man walked into Norwegian-American Hospital around 4:15 a.m. after getting shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man was driving in the 3400 block of West Beach Avenue when a vehicle pulled alongside him and someone inside fired shots, Estrada said.

He was shot in the back and managed to drive himself to the hospital. He was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Estrada said.

About 3:30 a.m., a 17-year-old boy was wounded in a shooting in the Jefferson Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side, Estrada said.

The boy was in the 4500 block of North Lockwood Avenue when he was shot in the leg during a possible drive-by shooting, Estrada said.

He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition had stabilized Estrada said.

Police were investigating.
