Whether it's a testament to the Bond name or the sheer talent on display at IO Interactive, 007 First Light has become the studio's fastest-selling game ever, hitting more than 1.5 million sales within its first 24 hours.
It's quite impressive to look at the journey IO Interactive has been on. The studio, best known for the Hitman series, has become one of the more interesting AAA success stories in gaming.
Things weren't always looking so positive for the developer. After becoming part of Square Enix, IO Interactive had its funding pulled in 2017 and was reportedly on the brink of closure before successfully pulling off a management buyout and becoming independent.
As we all know, that decision paid off massively. The studio went on to create the hugely successful Hitman trilogy, and now, in 2026, it has released its fastest-selling game of all time with 007 First Light.
It's a true testament to the studio's sheer determination to survive, as well as the talent of the people behind it, that it has managed to achieve what it has.
Now, admittedly, I've been torn between 007 First Light and LEGO Batman: The Dark Knight Legacy, but I think I'm leaning more toward 007. It's also a game I know my dad will enjoy, and since we game share, that definitely helps.
We do also get a bit of an insight thanks to Alinea Analytics, who provided data for Steam sales, meaning we know that at least 500,000 of those 1.5 million sales came from Steam, generating more than $25 million in revenue for the studio, which is impressive in itself.
Regardless of which platform people picked the game up on, it's still great to see the level of success it's achieved. With that said, let me know if you've picked the game up yet, if you're waiting for a sale, or if it's simply not your kind of game.
