Aneen Al-Qaid Media Network, which is specialized in affairs of Palestinian prisoners and liberated individuals, has affirmed that the captives in occupation prisons have for the first time been granted their right to call their families.
The network quoted sources in occupation prisons as saying that the Palestinian captives at the Negev prison section (4) were permitted to talk with their families via public phones in an average of 15 minutes for every inmate per day.
The Israel Prison Service decided to operate public phones inside section (1) at Ramon Prison next Sunday. Then they will be activated at Damun Prison for Palestinian women captives, later on at Ramle for sick captives.
Sources revealed that prisoners had protested the administration’s step not to allow them to use public phones, which led to an agreement to allow captives in communicating with their parents in all Palestinian areas including the Gaza Strip.
This step was considered a historic achievement for the Palestinian captives along with a series of other demands, after launching a hunger strike and other steps in mid-April.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Movement affirmed, in a statement, that setting up and operating phones about one month ago is deemed as a huge step which allowed captives at Negev prison section (4) to talk to their families.
