Hearing Begins In Georgia Election Case Against Donald Trump

Donald Trump to testify in New York civil fraud trial

The hearing in Fulton County over whether the charges in the Georgia election case against former President Donald Trump should be dismissed due to First Amendment protections has commenced. Trump’s lead attorney in Georgia, Stephen Sadow, is set to argue that the former president’s political speech is shielded by the First Amendment, thus making him immune to criminal prosecution.

Furthermore, the judge will consider arguments on two additional motions to dismiss the charges from Trump’s codefendant, David Shafer. Shafer contends that he was not involved in a broader conspiracy but was merely trying to adhere to legal advice.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is notably absent from the courtroom, with other members of the prosecution team present for the proceedings.
