France backs Spain in row with Trump over Iran war request

  • French President Emmanuel Macron has reiterated his solidarity with Spain after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to cut off all trade with Madrid over its stance on the Iran war.
  • Macron said he spoke to Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez Wednesday to declare European solidarity in response to Trump’s economic threats.
  • Trump said he will cut all trade with Spain over its refusal to allow U.S. aircraft to use jointly operated naval and air bases in southern Spain for the offensive against Iran.
  • Spain called the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran this weekend an “unjustified and dangerous military intervention.”
  • "Spain has been terrible," Trump snapped Tuesday. “We’re going to cut off all trade with Spain. We don't want anything to do with Spain.”
