Dunblane pensioner (97) conned out of three-figure sum by bogus workman

A 97-year-old was swindled out of a three-figure sum by a bogus workman in Dunblane.

Police have launched an investigation to trace the conman who took the cash from the elderly man to carry out work but failed to return to do the job.

The man, who resides in The Crescent, handed over the money on August 25 to the workman but he failed to return following payment.

The suspect was ‘large built’, wearing a high visibility vest and dark clothing and had facial hair. He visited the man’s home around 6.30pm and was driving a brown Ford Transit van. He worked alone.

Police say the incident only came to light when a relative of the man, who does not live locally, asked a neighbour to check on him. Officers were contacted and began an investigation.

Inspector Andy Bushell, of Dunblane police office, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who has seen this vehicle and spoken to a person who matches the description of the male. Be vigilant and look out for your elderly neighbours if you see this vehicle.” Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101.
