10 Reveals Why It Cast Publisher Michael In Big Brother Australia Despite Media Ban

Network 10 has issued a statement regarding Big Brother Australia‘s Michael Downs, who was cast as a housemate despite appearing to violate the show’s eligibility requirements.

ICYMI, Australia’s raunchiest reality TV show, Big Brother, has been given a second life, and it appears that viewers are absolutely frothing the reboot, which is set on Gold Coast’s Dreamworld and features a 24/7 livestream accessible on both 10Play and TikTok.

While this year’s cast features a plethora of characters — including an aspiring MMA fighter, singer, and, unfortunately, a Donald Trump fan — a publisher and CEO of a media company made it into the house.

Upon his entrance, Michael revealed he was a publisher of a media company that has beef with cyclists and “woke people”.

However, the issue with Michael’s spot in the house is that, according to Endemol Shine Australia’s terms and conditions for Big Brother Australia, contestants could not work or be linked with “any television broadcaster, news or media organisation, including any web-based media or other online platform or outlet”, Mumbrella reports.

Speaking to the publication, a Network 10 spokesperson confirmed that “Michael is the CEO of a publishing company which is responsible for publishing national magazine titles FHM, Women’s Fitness, Krash and It Girl. The company is responsible for the printing and delivery of these magazines.”

When asked why Michael was cast as a housemate, the spokesperson said he was picked as “he is outspoken, opinionated, mature, brings a no-nonsense attitude to the house, is a single dad to three teens, and represents a demographic that no one else represents in the house.”

While we’re only at Week One of the reboot, Michael has definitely made a space for himself in the house amongst the other cast members and the viewers, especially with his views.

However, Michael isn’t the only housemate who’s appeared to ruffle feathers. Queensland-based tradie Bruce has also been embroiled in controversy for his stance on gender roles, and 13th housemate Jane also copped heat after it was revealed she was a “passionate” Donald Trump fan after she was voted into the house by the Australian public.

You can watch Big Brother Australia on Channel 10 and on 10Play.
