Zverev smashes racquet but bows out to Raonic with barely a whimper

Canadian 16th seed Milos Raonic has beaten fourth seed Alexander Zverev in straight sets to progress to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.

Zverev put in an uncharacteristically mistake-ridden performance in the 6-1, 6-1, 7-6 (7/5) loss, serving up 10 double faults to give Raonic a huge leg-up.

The German smashed his racquet at the change of ends during the second set, a sign of frustration at just how off his game was.

Raonic will play the winner of Borna Coric and Lucas Pouille's round of 16 clash in the quarters.

More to come.
