Zoom's not good enough for Barnaby Joyce

New Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce says he'll meet with Scott Morrison when he is out of quarantine. (AAP)

Zoom isn't good enough for Barnaby Joyce.

The newly reinstated deputy prime minister hasn't finalised governing agreements with Scott Morrison because the latter remains in COVID quarantine.

"I haven't had a face-to-face meeting with the prime minister yet, because he's in lockdown," Mr Joyce told Sky News on Tuesday.

"It's fair to the Australian people to say you need to, ultimately, have a face-to-face meeting. I know the prime minister wants that, I want that."

Mr Morrison is officially free late Thursday night, when his quarantine expires following his return from the G7 summit.

His reshuffled cabinet is due to be sworn in on Friday, after Mr Joyce last week ousted Michael McCormack as Nationals leader.

Mr Joyce went to the backbench in 2018 accused of sexual harassment, which he denies, and after his relationship with his then-media advisor Vikki Campion was revealed.

The couple now have two children together.

After getting the top job back, Mr Joyce rewarded his supporters and banished his opponents to the backbench.

They included former veterans affairs minister Darren Chester, who described Mr Joyce's phone call sacking him as incoherent.

Mr Joyce said politics was a tough game and described Mr Chester as a very competent politician.

Also under the reshuffle, Bridget McKenzie returned to cabinet with various responsibilities including for emergency management.

She previously went to the backbench over the sports rorts scandal.

Keith Pitt remained Resources Minister, but that role was booted from cabinet despite Mr Joyce talking up the importance of the mining industry.
