Zooey Deschanel looks unrecognisable after ditching her trademark fringe

She's known for her trademark fringe but on Instagram Zooey Deschanel ditched her classic look in favour of a new look.

The New Girl star, 41 looked almost unrecognisable in the post, which quickly racked up thousands of comments.

"Proof I have a forehead," Zooey jokingly wrote alongside the photo, which showed her snapping a selfie in the mirror, with her hair styled in a middle parting.

"For all the doubters..." the film and TV star added in the caption of her post.

On her Instagram Stories, she shared a meme about her new look, which said: "Seeing Zooey Deschanel without bangs and glasses, I finally got how nobody knew who Clark Kent was Superman."

Fans were left open-mouthed by her new look, as one joked: "You could’ve had a tattoo up there for all these years and we wouldn’t have known..."

Another said: "I did not recognize that this was Zooey Deschanel until I looked at the username...."

A third advised: "If you ever want to rob a bank or something just wear your hair like that. Nobody will know it was you."

Another joked: "Ok, nice Photoshop skills."

One fan commented: "The 8th wonder of the world... Zooey Deschanel's forehead."

The actress has had a fringe since she was two-years-old and admits she rarely steers away from the classic look.

Her constant fringe has sparked several memes over the years - as one person joked: "I spend 50% of my day wondering what the forehead behind Zooey Deschanel's bangs looks like.."

Another said: "A pizza without cheese is like Zooey Deschanel without bangs."

In an interview with Allure magazine, the actress said she always returns to her fringe, commenting: "I’m bangs and eyes. It’s who I am.

"There have been periods when I’ve grown my bangs out, but I always cut them back, so it’s like, why go through the trouble?”
