Zoo receives more than 800 donated Christmas trees after it got confused with one in America

A zoo has received more than 800 donated Christmas trees after the public confused it with an animal sanctuary of the same name in the United States.

Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary, located in Georgia, USA, launched an appeal on its Facebook page asking for locals to donate their unwanted trees at the end of the festive period.

But the post is believed to have been spotted by someone in south west England, who mistook the sanctuary for Somerset's Noah's Ark Zoo Farm.

It resulted in the post being shared widely across the UK, prompting hundreds of people to deliver their Christmas trees to the farm, located in Wraxhall.

Emily Burgin, of Noah's Ark Zoo Farm, told Wales Online: “We saw online that a lot of people were sharing the US post and tagging us saying that they could drop them off with us.

"We decided that we would share the post ourselves saying that, although the original post wasn’t us, we would love people to donate their trees."

Noah's Ark said it has so far distributed them to its lions, tigers, bears, rhinos, meerkats, elephants and chickens, who loved the new additions to their enclosures.

The zoo said it would likely renew the appeal next year (Noah's Ark Zoo Farm)
How do you recycle Christmas trees?

The zoo wrote on social media: "Thank you to all the people who have messaged or seen the post from Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary in Georgia, USA, asking for Christmas Trees!

"Our animals will be glad of the mix-up and so if you are closer to Bristol, we would be happy to take your Christmas Trees for animal enrichment."

The zoo said it was likely to renew the appeal next Christmas, following its unexpected success.
