- An otter cub, named Mingo, was discovered curled up in the flamingo enclosure at Colchester Zoo, weighing just 800 grams.
- Jody Bedford, a team leader at the zoo, found Mingo "snoring his head off," with staff baffled as to how the cub, thought to be a few months old, entered the habitat.
- Zookeepers called Wildlives Rescue, as the cub had "zero" chance of survival without immediate intervention due to his reliance on his mother.
- Mingo was initially dehydrated, weak, and frightened but responded to emergency care from Wildlives Rescue.
- He has since been transferred to the UK Wild Otter Trust's specialist facility in Devon, where he will be cared for until strong enough for release back into the wild.
