Zoo babies come out to play for the school holidays

THE Hunter Valley Zoo baby boom has come just in time for the school holidays.

It is a veritable Noah's ark this breeding season with many siblings joining the zoo family.

Visitors will be able to see four tiny tortoise, two serval kittens, five kangaroo joeys, two cute capybara babies, two wolf pups and even a mischievous spider monkey as the infants leave the den, nest and pouch to meet the public.

The animals were given time to settle in with the parents before being unleashed on the public exhibits.

SIBLINGS: The baby serval cats called Meiko and Zuri are playful and can already jump two metres high.

"We like to make sure they are safe and healthy before they leave the den," keeper Daisy Murphy said.

"It is definitely one of the best times of the year.

"All of the keepers are very excited."

The baby serval cats called Meiko and Zuri will be among the more entertaining animals as they can already jump more than two metres into the air.

While the two little capybara girls, yet to be named, prefer to chill out with their parents and eat grass.

"We have nice open outdoor spaces and heaps of babies to see so come to the zoo," she said.
