Zoë Wanamaker to star in new play about first ladies of France and America at Bridge Theatre

Zoë Wanamaker is set to star in the world premiere of a play about the first ladies of France and America at the Bridge Theatre.

Two Ladies, written by Nancy Harris and to be directed by Nicholas Hytner, explores what happens when the two women find themselves alone together as their husbands clash over an international crisis.

Wanamaker, last seen on the London stage in Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party, will appear alongside Zrinka Cvitešić in the play, which opens on September 25 for a limited six weeks. Cvitešić won an Olivier Award for her role as Girl in musical Once. Anna Fleischle will design the production, with lighting by Johanna Town and sound by George Dennis.

It was also announced that a production of CS Lewis's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will run over the festive period at the theatre.

The show, first staged at Leeds Playhouse, is directed by Sally Cookson, who won acclaim for previous adaptations including Jane Eyre and Peter Pan.

The production is designed by Rae Smith, with lighting from Bruno Poet, sound by Ian Dickinson and music by Benji Power.

Today's announcement also features news that Laura Linney will reprise her role in My Name is Lucy Barton on Broadway. She was shortlisted for an Evening Standard Theatre Award for her performance in the stage adaptation of Elizabeth Strout's novel.

It was recently announced that Hytner and London Theatre Company co-founder Nick Starr will be opening another theatre in King’s Cross, planned to open in 2021.
