Zoe Schor leaving Ada St., planning something new

Aug. 21--Zoe Schor, whose tenure at Ada St. (1664 N. Ada St., 773-697-7069) included three straight Bib Gourmand recognitions from the Michelin Guide, is resigning as executive chef, effective Aug. 30.

"I'm going to start something on my own," Schor said. "Definitely in Chicago."

Schor has been the only executive chef in Ada St.'s three-year history, but said it's time for her to strike out on her own. The what, where and when are very much up in the air.

"I don't have too much to report right now," she said. "It will have a serious food focus. As of right now, I don't have a location; I'm not being coy."

So, Zoe 2.0 is at least a year away?

"I don't think that's an unreasonable assessment," Schor said. "We'll just see what happens. I'm a big believer in going with the flow and what's presented to you. Maybe there will be an opportunity to do some stages in the interim; a pop-up or two might be in my future."

Ada St. partner David Morton said a successor had yet to be named.

"Right now, I'm just appreciating what's been an amazing journey with Zoe," he said. "We've had the good fortune to have some really great young talent work for us, and gain the confidence and ability to strike out on their own, including Brian Ahern, at Boeufhaus, and Lee Kuebler at Milwalky Trace. Zoe is a tribute to that for us."
