No matter how hard you try to be the best guest every time you leave your house, there’s no doubt there will be a moment when you can’t help but create a mess. Zoe Kravitz was unlucky enough to be that unruly guest when she was invited to Taylor Swift’s house.
And it wasn’t just a case of Kravitz being heavy on her feet in the middle of the night and dropping a couple of pots and pans. It was much worse and it ended up with Swift needing some impromptu remodeling. LA fires caused a tragedy at the top of the year, forcing both Kravitz and her mother Lisa Bonet to evacuate their homes. Kravitz explained on Late Night with Seth Meyers how her house was affected, while her mother’s home was believed to be on the path of the fire.
Kravitz shared with Meyers that her mother Bonet came over with her pet snake. Considering she lives with the snake alongside her children with Jason Momoa, you’d assume the snake is at least safe. But most people find it terrifying regardless. A snake crawling in between the walls of your house is creepy even if it’s a friendly snake.
That was on Kravitz’s mind when she explained what happened. The then broken-hearted Catwoman actor once went to the bathroom only to find Bonet had lost her snake Orpheus somewhere inside. The two then had two options: either break down the entire bathroom to find the snake or just leave Orpheus creeping through the walls. They went with the former.
Kravitz went on to explain that Swift’s mansion is a vintage from the 1930s, something you’d want to preserve. But Kravitz felt she had no choice. So they started breaking down the bathroom in search of Orpheus. As things spiraled, Kravitz asked Swift’s staff to keep the breakdown under wraps until she fixed it. But the search got so dire that Kravitz decided to call Swift herself to self-report, and before she could say a word, Swift told her she already knew exactly what was going on. In the end, it was probably the best decision to call her friend — because hiding it when Swift already knew would have only made things more awkward.
But that’s behind them, and it’s likely Kravitz just picked up the invoice. Swift has been described by friends as incredibly accommodating — some even call her dragons. But when it’s all said and done, this can happen to anyone — well, maybe if your mom has a pet snake. So maybe not exactly anyone.
And it seems no grudges were held, because as Swift’s new album is reportedly complete, everyone is being asked whether they’ve heard it. Most of her friends are either tight-lipped or admit they’re not that close in the Grammy winner’s circle. Not Kravitz, though — she said she heard the entire album and insists it has no skips. So maybe tearing up a mid-century bathroom isn’t such a big deal when you’re the biggest pop star in the world.
