Zoe Ball shares emotional family update after missing out on Strictly Come Dancing role

Zoe Ball has revealed that her teenage daughter is now living primarily with her father.

Ball, 55, who missed out on the Strictly Come Dancing hosting job, co-parents Woody, 25, and Nelly, 16, with her ex-husband Norman Cook, the producer and DJ better known as Fatboy Slim.

On the latest episode of Jo Whiley and Ball’s Dig It podcast, the presenter shared that life has become noticeably quieter since Nelly had moved.

“Mine's so quiet, it's like ugh! It's less and less because Nel is based more at her dad's now because I think she's got to that point of, 'Ah can I just be in one place?'” she shared.

“All of her GCSE revision notes are on the wall at her dad's and it's just not having to move from house to house, so she's just spending more time there now."

Ball and Cook have maintained a close friendship following their divorce in 2016 after 18 years together.

Reflecting on her daughter’s move, the radio presenter admitted living close to her ex has made the transition easier, meaning she can pop over whenever her daughter needs her.

"It's great because it's only around the corner and I can nip round at any time, which is great, and she can come here if she gets upset about anything like, 'Mum, I need you' but it's less and less’”, she shared.

The comments come after Ball confirmed she had been passed over for the Strictly Come Dancing hosting role.

It was revealed last week that Emma Willis, comedian Josh Widdicombe and Strictly pro Johannes Radebe would helm the series later this year.

Earlier this month, the broadcaster shared her “grief and rejection” over losing out on one of the hosting roles after being considered for the job by BBC bosses.

Producers have been trying to find a replacement for longtime presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman ever since they left the dance competition last year.

Ball discussed being rejected from the major TV job, admitting she is experiencing the “seven stages of grief”.

“I didn't get it, but it's OK,” Ball told her friend Whiley.

The star, who left her Radio 2 job in 2025, went on: “I have worked through the seven stages of grief and rejection over the last couple of days.

“No, I didn't get it, but I tell you, what, if who I think has got it, we're in safe hands and our new hosts are going to be fabulous. I'm so thrilled for them, and hopefully at a later date, we'll be able to talk about them in more detail.”

Sharing more details about the role, she added: “I was so chuffed to even be in the mix. There were some pretty amazing people who didn't even make it into the mix.

“So I made it in the mix, and I had a really fun time having one last little play at a show that I love and adore. And I'm so thrilled for the gang that has got it.

“I think there's been so many eyes on this whole process, everyone's quite relieved now that a decision has been made and the right decision has been made.”
