Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Man Utd regret as he's handed dream Europa League reunion

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is preparing for a reunion with former club Manchester United after his AC Milan side were drawn against them in the last 16 of the Europa League.

United comfortably beat Real Sociedad 4-0 in the last round, while Milan edged past Red Star Belgrade on away goals and the prospect of Ibrahimovic locking horns with the Red Devils is certainly an exciting one.

The striker spent two seasons at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho after leaving PSG and he helped United win the League Cup and the Europa League.

Ibrahimovic netted 29 goals and provided ten assists in 53 appearances in all competitions for United, before departing in 2018 to join LA Galaxy.

Speaking to the club's official website after his departure, Ibrahimovic revealed his only regret about his time at United was that he had not joined them sooner.

"I feel sorry for the fans – if they'd seen me younger, they'd have seen a different lion," he said. "For the Premier League, it would have been dangerous, as I would have eaten them for breakfast; instead, I took them for lunch.

"But I came: they wanted me, I gave them me and I took over. Been there and done that."

Reacting to the draw, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he was "looking forward to" facing both Milan and Ibrahimovic, saying: "We do have the tradition of making it hard for ourselves in draws.

"It's one of the those draws again that you feel could be a Champions League game. It's good for us to have these games to look forward to. This team needs challenges and we enjoy challenges and we embrace them.

"The tradition and history of AC Milan, it's a great club that we welcome and it's a great stadium that we go to there, and we're looking forward to it.

"Zlatan, of course, I've been so impressed, I've got to say, by how his career has gone. He had a career-threatening injury when he was here but came back from that and went to [the] MLS, then came back to Milan and has really lifted them.

"They're on the up and have done really well this season. I've been so impressed by him."
