AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has delivered his verdict on goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma amid links with Chelsea.
Donnarumma is yet to agree a new contract with AC Milan with his current deal set to expire at the end of this season, opening the door for a free departure.
The 21-year-old is currently free to agree a deal with a club outside Italy ahead of the end of the season, but the only contract talks that seem to be ongoing at the moment are with AC Milan.
The Italian giants are desperate not to lose their start keeper and have launched new contract talks this week, according to reports, having come up short with previous offers.
Director Frederic Massara told DAZN: "We’re confident to reach an agreement with Donnarumma and Calhanoglu in order to extend their contracts in the next weeks."
That will come as bad news for Chelsea who are reportedly keen to make a move for the Italian stopper amid struggles in their goalkeeping department.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has failed to impress since arriving from Athletic Club and Edouard Mendy has had a mixed start since his arrival in the last summer window.
Mendy impressed initially but has made mistakes in Chelsea's recent run of poor form.
And that could lead Chelsea to make a move for another goalkeeper, perhaps Donnarumma, particularly if he does remain available on a free transfer.
Amid those reports of Donnarumma's exit, AC Milan teammate Ibrahimovic has delivered his verdict.
He told CorSport: "Donnarumma? He's the best goalkeeper in the world, it's not normal that he has never played a Champions League match."
As Ibrahimovic mentions, AC Milan are not in the Champions League this season, but they do look as though they will qualify for next term, currently top of Serie A.
Chelsea's qualification for next season's competition is far less obvious, however, the Blues in ninth position as things stand, and that could put them at risk of missing out of Donnarumma even if he does become available this summer.
