Zlatan Ibrahimovic makes AC Milan vow to fans as he completes transfer "home"

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has declared he’s finally “home” after completing his return to AC Milan.

Former Manchester United forward Ibrahimovic, 38, touched down at Linate Airport on Thursday morning before undergoing a medical the Madonnina Clinic in Milan.

He is signing a six-month contract, with the option for an extra year.

He has also taken the No.21 shirt, after agreeing to return following his LA Galaxy exit in November.

Ibrahimovic won the Scudetto with the Rossoneri during his first spell at the club, from 2010 to 2012.

But he returns to a side struggling, stuck in mid-table and 14 points behind the top four, having already sacked boss Marco Giampaolo in October, replacing him with Stefano Pioli, vowing to get the San Siro jumping again.

"I remember arriving in this same spot many years ago," said Ibrahimovic. "What matters now is that I'm back and I'm happy.

"I've always said this is my home and I'm finally back. I've played for other teams in my years, but finally I'm back and that's all that matters.”

Hundreds of fans had turned up at the airport to see the return of the veteran Swede, while also lining the streets.

Asked if he had a message for the club's supporters, Ibrahimovic reiterated: "I'm back, finally.

"I'm eager to see the fans at San Siro, to make the stadium jump with joy again.”

Milan currently sit 11th in Serie A, having been thrashed by Atalanta 5-0 prior to the international break - their worst league defeat in 21 years.

They are back in action against Sampdoria on Monday, and former boss Fabio Capello is hoping that Ibrahimovic can have a transformative effect.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the ex-England coach said: "Zlatan's return to Milan is positive in two respects: for what he can still offer as a player and for the contribution of personality.

"The stories of the poor US championship are bleak. It is not at the level of the best European leagues.

"Ibrahimovic will need a few games to settle, but then he will become decisive. Milan have little personality. Zlatan will shake the team.

"However, the transfer window cannot end here. We need a reinforcement in defence."
