Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Celtic doubt as Milan superstar faces testing battle ahead of Europa League clash

Milan will have captain Alessio Romagnoli back to face Celtic but Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still in doubt.

The Italian giants visit Parkhead for a Europa League showdown on October 22 but had been facing a defensive crisis.

The Rossoneri tried desperately to recruit a centre-back during the transfer window, and were keeping tabs on Kris Ajer, but ultimately they were unable to strengthen the backline.

However, captain Alessio Romagnoli will return to training on Thursday and, providing there are no further injury setbacks, he'll be ready to play in Glasgow.

Like Celtic, Milan face a huge derby match before the European test as they face Inter on October 17.

And it's still not clear when Swedish superstar Ibrahimovic will be able to return to the squad.

The 39-year-old tested positive for coronavirus last month and was forced to isolate.

In typical fashion he wrote on Twitter on September 24: "I tested negative to Covid yesterday and positive today.

"No symptoms what so ever. Covid had the courage to challenge me. Bad idea."

While Ibrahimovic is asymptomatic, according to Gazzetta dello Sport he's still returning positive COVID tests and cannot return until he tests negative.

Ibra returned a positive test on Thursday morning, reports Sky Italia, and cannot return to the squad until he has returned two negatives in a row.

The veteran has three goals in two appearances so far this season but has been unavailable since the opening Serie A match of the season against Bologna.
