Zizzi, a popular pizza chain with branches across the UK, has issued an urgent recall over an undeclared ingredient that hasn’t been listed on its labels.
The brand’s ‘Zizzi at home’ range allows Italian food lovers to tuck into their favourite dishes from the comfort of their own homes.
However, the food brand is currently urging customers to return recent purchases of its Vegan Jackfruit Pepperoni Rustica Pizza, which is available in various UK supermarkets, after it emerged that milk was among the ingredients.
According to an alert created by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), pizzas with a best-before date of July 15, 2026 and the batch code 5105 are being recalled.
“We are recalling Zizzi Vegan Jackfruit Rustica Pizzas due to potential contamination with milk,” the statement read.
In a warning to customers, those who have an allergy, intolerance or sensitivity to milk are advised to avoid eating the product.
“Some of these pizzas may have been accidentally cross-contaminated with milk, which isn’t listed on the label,” Zizzi confirmed in a statement.
“This means the product could pose a health risk to anyone with a dairy allergy or lactose intolerance. It also means it’s not suitable for a vegan diet, despite being labelled as vegan—and we know that’s not what you expect from us.”
“If you’ve bought this product, please check the batch code below. If it matches, and you’re allergic to dairy, lactose intolerant, or vegan, don’t eat it. Simply return it to the Tesco store where you bought it for a full refund—you won’t need a receipt.”
The statement concluded: “We’re really sorry for any worry or inconvenience this may cause, and we’re working closely with our partners to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Here’s what you need to know about the recent recall.
