Zipabout launches new transport tech to help with post-lockdown travel

A Birmingham tech firm has been chosen by the UK government to launch a new service aimed at delivering personalised passenger information.

Passenger Connect has been created by Zipabout to give rail users updates on their own individual journeys such as overcrowding, delays and alternative routes.

It is now available to all users of National Rail Enquiries via a messaging service with an upcoming rollout on WhatsApp and via text messages.

Zipabout said it hoped the service would help get the country moving again now that lockdown restrictions were being eased and people were returning to public transport.

It has been successfully piloted by train companies and National Rail over the past year before the national launch this week.

Zipabout co-founder Alex Froom said: "We're delighted to work with the Government on the rollout of Passenger Connect which will help Britain get moving again by keeping people safe while they make essential journeys.

"Our technology enables operators to talk directly to passengers about their individual journey - information which is now more important than ever as people emerge from lockdown and rely on real-time updates to use the railways safely."

Zipabout was founded in 2016 and works with the transport industry with the aim of addressing everyday travel problems and improving passengers' experiences through personalised travel information.
