Zip World worker, 31, dies suddenly 'after suffering heart attack'

Tributes have been paid to a 31-year-old Zip World worker who died suddenly.

Robert Thomas has been described as "always smiling" who was loved by everyone who knew him.

He worked as an operator on the tourist attraction Betws y Coed base died last Thursday and is understood to have suffered a cardiac arrest.

His devastated brother Philip paid a heartfelt tribute to Robert who lived in Rhos-on-Sea.

Philip told NorthWalesLive : "My brother loved people, he had time for everyone.

"He wasn't an extrovert but when he met anyone they always loved him."

Robert enjoyed being outdoors and was an experienced rock climber, and sailor. His other great passion was rallying, and his pride and joy was owning his own rally car.

He was also a talented circus performer, his brother explained.

"Robert was naturally talented in circus skills, he could ride an unicycle when he was just eight years old, and at one point there was talk of him joining the Cirque du Soleil.

"The last time I saw him was when he was playing a clown at Zip World's Scarefest and he was having the time of his life."

He added: "He loved working at Zip World and made lots of new friends."

A spokeswoman for Zip World said: "Rob was a man who impacted the lives of those around him. Always smiling, willing to help, and cracking jokes - he got on with the job at hand and did it well!

"Many here at Zip World Fforest have been affected by this loss, but in memory of Rob we will continue to smile and rock on!"

She added: "Our thoughts and energy are with those closest to him, at this difficult moment in time."

Robert's family and friends have launched a Go Fund Me page to raise money for the North Wales Mountain Rescue Association. More than  £2,500 has already been raised in just three days with a target of £5,000.

Philip added: "Walking in the mountains in Snowdonia or climbing them, brought Robert a lot of joy and many happy times.

"He was also very keen to help those in need and often found himself helping others when in the outdoors.

"It only seems fitting that we raise funds in memory of Robert for the NWMRA and the amazing work they carry out."

Robert was also a keen supporter of organ donation, and his kidneys and liver have been already been donated to save the lives of others in need.
