Zion Williamson says Lonzo Ball has helped lead him with Pelicans

Albeit through just a pair of preseason games, Zion Williamson has looked like he hasn’t missed a beat in adjusting to life in the NBA. On Wednesday, he followed up his impressive debut with a sterling performance against the Bulls. Williamson missed just one field goal and finished with 29 points in 27 minutes.

After the game, Williamson spoke with ESPN’s Mike Breen for an on-court interview. Breen asked Williamson which players had helped him out most in the early stages of his NBA career.

A lot of the vets. Jrue (Holiday), E’Twaun (Moore) and Lonzo (Ball). Those three have really been helpful for me. If they see, like, I’m, like, slipping up or something, they’re there to be like ‘It’s alright.’ They show me the right way to do it.

Lonzo Ball is obviously the interesting inclusion in this list as he certainly is not as experienced as Jrue Holiday or E’Twaun Moore. Ball, though, has been through a lot in his brief career. On the current Pelicans roster, only Ball has experience being in the spotlight in the current age of social media. In that regard, few players in the league are more well-equipped to give advise Williamson on being in the public eye.

Ball and Williamson have already developed a growing chemistry on the court. That type of on-court bond can be by-product of a growing bond off the court. If that’s the case, it could spell a big season for the two of them.
