Zion Williamson out 6-8 weeks after suffering torn meniscus

The most-anticipated rookie debut since LeBron James will have to wait at least another six weeks. The stroke of luck that gave the New Orleans Pelicans the No. 1 pick and Zion Williamson has cruelly comeback to bit them with a similar stroke of bad luck for their new star in his first season.

Williamson will miss at least the next 6-8 weeks after getting surgery on a torn meniscus on Monday. That would take him out likely until November, which is a major blow to the league, who had bet on Williamson to be a major draw on national television.

The Pelicans have 10 national television games schedule this season, including the first game of the NBA season on Tuesday night against the defending champion Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena.

Now the opener loses its luster and the basketball world misses an opportunity to see the most-hyped player to enter the league since LeBron to kick off what is expected to be the most wide-open NBA season in the last 20 years.
