Zion Williamson on calls to shut down his Duke career: ‘Thanks, but no thanks’

Zion Williamson has no plans to shut down his college career. Even before the Duke star suffered a sprained knee when his shoe broke down against North Carolina, there had already been calls for Zion to shut everything down.

Now that he’s coming back for Thursday’s ACC Tournament game against Syracuse, Williamson reiterated that he’s committed to playing out the entire season for Duke.

His message for those wanting him to focus on the NBA? “Thanks, but no thanks.”

Williamson said in an interview with NCAA.com:

“For the people that think I should just stop playing in college and just focus on the NBA: thanks, but no thanks. I’m not really worried about that. I’m just trying to be Zion and play the game I love.”

No matter how Williamson looks in the next four weeks, he’ll almost certainly be the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA draft. But for now, his goal is to win a national title.

“I’m trying to go for that national championship. That’s the end goal in college. You’ll never be forgotten if you win a national championship,” Williamson said.
