Zion Williamson is the most electrifying dunker to join the NBA ranks since probably LeBron James (or Blake Griffin). He proved during his one season at Duke that he is more than just a dunker, but we can’t overlook the fact that he’s still ridiculously good at dunking.
Just don’t expect to see Zion compete in an NBA dunk contest.
The former Duke star hasn’t even played an NBA game, and he’s already ruling out the possibility of competing in the NBA dunk contest. Despite showing the ability to throw down contest-caliber dunks with ease, Zion told ESPN that he really doesn’t have any desire to participate in another dunk contest.
Williamson said:
“Honestly, I don’t think I’m gonna do it. To be honest. Unless something can change my mind … I’m not much of a dunk contest person. I just do it in warmups to get myself going.”
LeBron notably has never competed in the NBA dunk contest, so this wouldn’t be an unprecedented decision from a high-flying superstar. But let’s hope Zion’s mind can be changed because the people need to see his dunks.
