Zinedine Zidane wins 10th trophy as Real Madrid coach – and a first in his second spell in charge

Zinedine Zidane has won his tenth trophy as Real Madrid boss, and his first since returning to the Santiago Bernabeu for a second spell in charge last March.

Los Blancos claimed the first available piece of silverware for the season with a penalty shoot-out win over rivals Atletico Madrid in the revamped Spanish Supercopa in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The triumph takes Zidane into double figures as Madrid boss, and is his second win in the competition.

In his first spell as Madrid boss between January 2016 and May 2018, the Frenchman led the club to nine trophies: three Champions League crowns, one LaLiga, two UEFA Super Cups, one Supercopa and two Club World Cups.

The new Supercopa format saw the top two from LaLiga qualify, along with the two Copa del Rey finalists, with Madrid qualifying for their third place finish in the league as Barcelona topped the table and also reached the cup final last term.

Madrid beat Valencia 3-1 in Wednesday's semi-final, before seeing off Atleti, who had beaten Barcelona, on penalties after 120 minutes of goalless football.
