Zinedine Zidane's worst injury fears confirmed ahead of Liverpool vs Real Madrid

Real Madrid have been handed a major injury blow ahead of their Champions League tie against Liverpool.

The Reds face Los Blancos in the second leg of the last-eight tie on Wednesday night, needing to overcome a 3-1 deficit to reach the semi-final.

One player they appear certain to be without is Lucas Vazquez, who filled in as a makeshift right-back in the first leg.

Vazquez hobbled off with an injury during Real’s win over Barcelona in El Clasico on Saturday, and now it looks like the serious of his issue has been confirmed.

Reliable journalist Arancha Rodriguez has provided an update on the severity of Vazquez’s injury, and it appears to be quite serious.

According to Rodriguez, Vazquez has suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his knee, and will be out of action for the remainder of the season.

“Lucas Vazquez suffers an injury to the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” wrote Rodriguez on Twitter.

“Goodbye to the season.”

Vazquez’s injury only adds to Zinedine Zidane’s injury woes at Real, with him now left scratching his head on who will play at right-back.

Regular right-back Dani Carvajal is sidelined with an injury, along with centre-back Sergio Ramos and Eden Hazard.

Raphael Varane is also unavailable after being diagnosed with Covid-19 on the day of the first leg against Liverpool.
