Zinedine Zidane's volley at Hampden Park in Glasgow voted 'most beautiful' goal in Champions League history

Zinedine Zidane's majestic volley in the Champions League final at Hampden Park in Glasgow has been voted the 'most beautiful' goal in Champions League history.

His strike for Real Madrid against Bayer Leverkusen in the 2002 final - on what was a typically rainy May night in Glasgow - secured the top spot in a poll by France Football.

The French publication put together a list of the 50 best strikes from when the competition kicked off (in 1992), until today.

According to the magazine, Zidane's goal is a perfect blend of, "balance, finesse, power… It has everything".

The golazo by the current Madrid boss earned Los Blancos their 9th European Cup/Champions League triumph, alongside the heroics of a young Iker Casillas in goal.

The top five chosen by the esteemed French site is completed by Mauro Bresan for his strike for Fiorentina v Barcelona in 1999, Cristiano Ronaldo's overhead kick for Madrid v Juventus in 2018, Dejan Stankovic's long range effort for Inter v Schalke in 2011 and Philippe Mexés for his acrobatic effort for Milan v Anderlecht in 2012.

Maybe they should build a statue to Zizou outside Hampden now? Just a thought.
