Zinedine Zidane's reaction to Real Madrid drawing Liverpool in Champions League

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane conceded he believes his side will face a "demanding" game against Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Madrid will welcome Liverpool to the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano for the first leg - due to the Bernabeu being renovated - before heading to Anfield for the first tie.

In between those games, they face a must-win La Liga clash against Barcelona in the final El Classico of the season.

Madrid's campaign has been difficult for them so far, having struggled with injuries to key players.

They are currently third in the La Liga table, two points behind Barca and six behind league-leaders Atletico Madrid.

But Zidane is refusing to take his eye off the ball in Europe, as he reacted to Friday's quarter-final draw.

He admitted he knows the game will be tough for his players, but appeared to indicate he was confident.

"We know the difficulties at this level," Zidane said.

"It will be very demanding, especially physically."

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp had a similar reaction to the draw, and talked up the task ahead.

Having seen his side fall against Madrid in the final of the competition back in 2018, the German is eager to get another crack at them.

He said: "It’s exciting, exciting. It’s obviously a tough draw but I am fine with it because if you look at all the other teams you think, ‘Oh my god’ because they are all strong and all have quality, that’s clear. I am really looking forward to the games.

“It’s only just over two years ago that we faced them and it was a tough night for us, so to get the chance to play them again is cool.

“I know it’s a different round and whatever and we don’t know where we will play and stuff like this, but that’s all OK. If it will be Budapest, that’s fine. We are fine with that. The home game maybe hopefully at Anfield, that would be great as well.

“So, no, nothing bad to say – nothing bad to say actually, it’s just cool.”
