Zinedine Zidane's epic Hampden wondergoal tops Champions League poll

The famous winner by Zinedine Zidane at Hampden in 2002 has been voted the best volley in Champions League history.

The stunning goal gave Real Madrid the lead after Lucio had cancelled out Raul’s opener in the first half as Los Blancos beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1.

It’s the last Champions League Final to have taken place at Hampden and the goal is well remembered as one of the greatest ever scored in football history.

And it takes its rightful place as the best volley since the competition rebranded from the European Cup in the early 90s - just ahead of Bressan's for Fiorentina against Barcelona in 1999.

France Football described Zidane's goal with this brief description: 'It is a perfect blend of, balance, finesse, power… It has everything'.

The publication put together their list of the top 50 strikes without a bounce goals and Zizou's was the clear winner - with two more Real Madrid strikes in the top 10.

That includes Gareth Bale's stunning goal against Liverpool in the 2018 final and Cristiano Ronaldo's overhead pearler in an earlier round against Juventus.

No Scottish players or clubs or on the list in any capacity although Rangers youngster Ianis Hagi's dad Gheorghe does make it for his goal against Monaco in 2000 for Galatasaray, placing at 19.
