Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has claimed that former Chelsea player Eden Hazard needed to join Real Madrid in order to become a better player.
Hazard joined the Spanish giants last month in a deal that could exceed £150m. The Belgian spent seven years at Stamford Bridge, scoring 110 goals in 352 appearances for the Blues.
But, it became clear that Chelsea would be unable to keep hold of their man when Real Madrid made their interest know at the start of the transfer window. While negotiations rumbled on for some time, as the time went by it became less and less likely that the talisman would be playing his football at Stamford Bridge this season.
Hazard was one of Zidane's top targets for the summer, and he has explained why he targeted the Chelsea man.
"He's a determining player. He scores goals and makes a difference. He's shown it throughout his career and now we have him," the Real manager said at a press conference (as reported by the Mirror ). "We will take advantage of his qualities. I'm very happy with him."
The Frenchman has also explained why a move away from the Blues was necessary for the player's development.
"Eden needed a club like Real Madrid to improve," he added.
"This club has something special and we all know it.
"When I arrived at Real Madrid, I was 29 years old and I still had a lot left. I spent five years as a player and improved things.
"Eden's situation is the same. We know the type of player he is and that he can give us a lot."
Hazard could make his Real Madrid debut against Bayern Munich in the early hours of Sunday morning.
