Zinedine Zidane reveals the best and worst memories from his long association with Real Madrid

Departing Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has revealed his best and worst memories he has from his time playing and managing the club.

Zidane is leaving the European champions after winning an unprecedented third straight Champions League title, he told a news conference on Thursday.

“I think it’s the moment, both for me, the team and the club (to step down). It’s a strange moment to do so, I know, but an important one too. I had to do this for everyone,” he said.

The Frenchman also revealed his favourite memory from his long association with the club.

“The best memory was being able to play for this club,” he said.

“It is the dream of many players to play even one day for Real Madrid. The most beautiful moment was when the president brought me to play for this great club.

“If there's one as a coach, it was winning La Liga. For me that was the top.”

The worst moment meanwhile came towards the end of this season in a cup match.

“This year the worst was losing the game against Leganés in the second leg of the Copa del Rey,” he added.

“I won't use the word but you know it.”
