Zinedine Zidane reveals Gareth Bale is close to Real Madrid exit amid Manchester United links

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has revealed Gareth Bale is closing in on an exit from the Spanish capital and developments in a transfer are expected over the course of the coming days.

The 30-year-old Wales international did not feature in the club's pre-season defeat to Bayern Munich in America, with Zidane revealing his absence was due to an imminent departure.

Bale has been linked with a number of clubs during the summer transfer window, including Manchester United, but a deal for his services is tricky due to his hefty wage demands.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are among the other clubs to have been linked with a swoop for the serial Champions League winner and Zidane stated more news should follow over the course of the next few weeks.

"[Bale] wasn’t called up because I believe the club are working on his exit and that’s why he didn’t play. We’ll see what will happen in the coming days," he said after the match.

"[Is he about to leave?] I’m not going to speak about that. Let’s see. If it is tomorrow, [even] better. Let’s hope it’s imminent for everybody, for him as well. The club is speaking with the club where he will play and that’s what we are working on.

"It’s not personal, there’s nothing personal. There comes a time when things are done because they need to be. I have to make decisions and we have to change. Let’s see what will happen. Nothing personal.

"You know the situation. And it is going to change. I don’t know if it will be in 24 or in 48 hours, but the situation is going to change and it’s good for everyone.

"I’m the coach and I speak to the club. We have to make decisions. The exit is to do with the coach and also the player himself, who knows the situation, and we will see how that is sorted."
