Zinedine Zidane responds to Mohamed Salah talk as new Liverpool role emerges for Diogo Jota

Here is your Liverpool morning digest on Tuesday, April 6th.

Zinedine Zidane responds to Mohamed Salah transfer talk

Liverpool take on Real Madrid in the Champions League this evening. And Zinedine Zidane, manager of the Spanish giants, was asked about speculation surrounding Mohamed Salah yesterday.

Rumours suggest Madrid may be keen on the Reds star - but their boss was refusing to be drawn on the links.

"Since he's not our player, I'm not going to get into that,” said Zidane, speaking in his pre-match press conference.

He added: "Salah's not our player either, all I'm interested in is [the game tonight]."

Diogo Jota stepping into new Liverpool role

It has been an incredible start to life at Liverpool for Diogo Jota.

And he is back with a bang after the recent international break, with two goals against Arsenal.

He will be hoping to be involved against Madrid - and it was interesting to note he was on media duties in the pre-match press conference alongside Jurgen Klopp.

As the ECHO's Paul Gorst wrote: "A sign of his growing reputation and responsibility inside this Liverpool squad? A fair assumption to some.

"That Jota was fielding questions on the eve of a clash against none other than Real Madrid just added to the allure of the situation he found himself in in the Spanish capital.

"Jota has spent the entirety of his fledgling Liverpool career so far looking every inch a £45million forward."

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville go head-to-head on Sky

It was a lively start to Monday Night Football yesterday evening as Carragher and Neville clashed over the right-back situation for England.

And the inclusion - or not - of Trent Alexander-Arnold in particular.

Neville gave his take on why Gareth Southgate might want a more defensive option - especially if the national team come up against the likes of "Hazard. Mbappe. Sane. Jota. Ronaldo."

But Carragher was having none of it and declared: "If you pick Kieran Trippier ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold, that's embarrassing."
