Zinedine Zidane 'ready to give Man Utd transfer blessing' as Red Devils identify target

Real Madrid are reportedly warming to the idea of giving Manchester United their blessing to sign £70million-rated defender Raphael Varane.

The France international is out of contract in the summer of 2022 and doesn't appear to want to pen a new deal with the Bernabeu club.

Zidane would ideally keep the defender, 27, and tie him down to a new big-money deal.

But Real Madrid are in danger of losing the centre-back on a free, and as a result are opening up to the idea of selling Varane this summer in order to receive a transfer fee for him.

Manchester United are in the market for a new centre-back and have identified Varane as an ideal candidate.

Other names on Manchester United's summer wishlist include Sevilla star Jules Kounde and Aston Villa centre-back Tyrone Mings.

Varane would likely prove to be good value for money given the time remaining on the Frenchman's Real Madrid contract.

And the Galactico signing would go down well with fans of the Old Trafford club.

Man United had a quiet January transfer window by their standards, but executive vice chairman Ed Woodward has promised funds will be made available at the end of the season.

"We will continue to support Ole with a planned, long-term approach to recruitment, focused on the summer windows," said Woodward.
