Zinedine Zidane provides Gareth Bale transfer update amid Tottenham links

Zinedine Zidane has played down suggestions that Gareth Bale could leave Real Madrid for Tottenham Hotspur.

According to  The Times, Spurs are growing in confidence that they can seal a stunning deadline day deal for the Wales international.

The report claims Spurs chairman Daniel Levy travelled to Madrid for talks with Real president Florentino Perez, with the sides discussing the finer details of a potential move.

But speaking ahead of Real's La Liga clash against rivals Atletico Madrid on Saturday, Zidane quashed any suggestion of an imminent move.

"Gareth is here with us and I am counting on him," the Frenchman said.

"I am not contemplating this possibility."

Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett had previously dismissed a possibility of Spurs signing the winger on loan.

"Why would one of the best players on Earth go on loan? That's ridiculous," he said.

"At the moment, he is going to be playing football for Real Madrid and he has got two-and-a-half years left on his contract.

"He is happy and hopefully he will win a couple of more things with Real Madrid."

Bale, who scored 55 goals for Spurs in a six-year spell, moved to Madrid in search of silverware and the decision has been fully vindicated with one La Liga title and four Champions League trophies since his arrival at the Bernabeu in 2013.
