Zinedine Zidane has made a shock return to Real Madrid with Los Blancos sacking Santiago Solari following their disastrous Champions League exit.
Zidane stunned Real Madrid by departing as their coach last summer following a third consecutive Champions League triumph.
Real have lurched from one crisis to another since then, with star man Cristiano Ronaldo sold to Juventus and their hiring of Julen Lopetegui marred in controversy as Spain sacking the coach days before the World Cup after learning of Real's agreement for him to take over after the tournament.
Lopetegui was sacked after just four-and-a-half months in charge at the Bernabeu as Real struggled to cope without Ronaldo's goals, and Solari was promoted from the club's reserve side to become caretaker manager.
Solari was handed a full-time contract following an impressive start, but Real's season has unravelled in recent weeks with Los Blancos losing two Clasicos against Barcelona in the space of four days before being dumped out of the Champions League in humiliating fashion by Ajax at the Bernabeu.
Solari clung on to his job over the weekend as Real came from behind to beat Real Valladolid 4-1, but club president Florentino Perez has now sacked the coach after a board meeting on Monday evening as Zidane prepares for a sensational return to the Real hotseat.
