Zinedine Zidane lets fly after question over Real Madrid selection policy

Zinedine Zidane took offence to a question over his selection policy amid suggestions his son will displace no.2 goalkeeper Keylor Navas .

The Real Madrid boss only returned to take charge of the Spanish club back in March, and faces a busy summer in the transfer market.

GiveMeSport report that one item on his list is the future of Navas, who has been rumoured to be leaving the club.

When asked whether player selection was entirely up to him, Zidane fumed: "It's my decision, obviously. Who do you think decides the team? This is clear like water.

"If I don't do what I want with my team, I leave."

Navas is behind Thibaut Courtois in the Madrid pecking order, and could now be replaced as back-up by Zidane's son, Luca.

21-year-old Luca only made his debut for the Madrid first team last season, and began this campaign as fourth-choice.

However Zidane Snr denied plans were already afoot to promote his son to number two.

He added: "Let's be clear about it. I have not asked the club for him [Luca Zidane] to be second goalkeeper next year.

"Those are things that will be decided at the end of the season, just like with every other player."

Navas was first-choice pick between the sticks for Zidane when Madrid won three consecutive Champoions League titles under his stewardship.

However the arrival of Courtois from Chelsea last summer has displaced the Costa Rican, who is now likely to depart the Bernabeu.

This is causing further disruption for Zidane, who is already at loggerheads with Madrid chiefs over summer transfer targets - in particular Man Utd's Paul Pogba.

He said previously of his compatriot: "If when his experience at United is over and he wants to come why would he not come to Madrid?”

However Florentino Perez is believed to favour a move for Tottenham's Christian Eriksen, and is already working to broker deals for Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic.
