Zinedine Zidane 'leaves Real Madrid' as Frenchman's second spell ends with trophyless season

Zinedine Zidane has left Real Madrid after enduring a trophyless season at the Spanish giants, according to a report.

The French boss - a three-time Champions League winner with Los Blancos - was in his second spell at the club having secured the La Liga title in last season's restarted top flight.

But he lost out to city rivals Atletico Madrid on the final day of this term last weekend with Diego Simeone celebrating his second at the club in seven years.

That has paved the way for Zidane's second exit as transfer insider Fabrizio Romano insists he's set to leave the club.

The journalist Tweeted: "Exclusive. Zinedine Zidane has decided to LEAVE Real Madrid with immediate effect."

It could be a big week at Real and rivals Barcelona with Ronald Koeman also pictured leaving a crunch meeting with Cules president Joan Laporta just 28 minutes after arriving at the club's main office.

Zidane quit Real at the height of his success last time having just delivered a third consecutive Champions League.

This time he leaves the club in a position of weakness with question marks about the future of key players such as captain Sergio Ramos.
