Zinedine Zidane hands Manchester United significant David de Gea boost

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has played down the chances of signing David de Gea from Manchester United this summer.

The La Liga giants have continuously been linked with United ’s number one, with rumours intensifying in the latter stages of the campaign following a sequence of poor form for the 28-year-old.

With former Chelsea stopper Thibaut Courtois also struggling to impress during his first year at the Santiago Bernabeu, the suggestion has been that Zidane is keen to shake things up after a disappointing campaign.

However, it is expected that Courtois will remain at the Spanish capital and Zidane has now revealed that it is likely that Keylor Navas will also be staying put - playing down De Gea 's chances of a move.

When asked if the Costa Rica international will wave goodbye to the club after Sunday’s LaLiga finale, Zidane said:

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reveals his criteria for next job

“I don't think so, nor do I want to think about next season either. There are many rumours about what's going to happen but I'm not going to say anything. Nobody knows what I said to Keylor except him and me.

“I will be clear about who will play when the next season starts. It's my decision. Who do you think is in charge of this team? It's clear as water: I'm the coach, I will always do what I want and if I can't then I'll quit. That's clear.

“With the transfer issues, there are people here at the club and we all work together. But the team, choosing the line-up, the bench, the squad... that's me and my staff.”

Zidane was unimpressed by the constant transfer questions as he batted away queries regarding Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Luka Jovic and whether Isco would be leaving.
