Zinedine Zidane drops strongest hint yet that he will leave Real Madrid at end of season

Zinedine Zidane has admitted change could "be good for everyone" in the biggest hint yet that he will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season.

Although Los Blancos still have a chance of winning La Liga they have had a largely disappointing campaign, and the pressure has been growing on Zidane ever since they were knocked out of the Champions League by Chelsea at the semi-final stage.

The Frenchman was quizzed about his future ahead of his side's crucial game against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

And he appeared to all but confirm that he will be departing from the club a year before the end of his contract, which expires at the end of next season.

"The answer is very boring," Zidane said. "There are two games left. I don't know what will happen after that.

"Anything could happen. This is Real Madrid. People think I would quit because I don't want responsibility when things get complicated. That is not true. Everything I do I do to my best.

"There comes a time when there must be change because it could be good for everyone. Sometimes you must be there and other times you must leave for the good of everyone."

Zidane was later asked whether it would be easier for him to continue as manager or for the club to sign Kylian Mbappe.

And he added: "I'm going to answer the same thing. I don't know what will happen. I am focusing on day-to-day, I don't think beyond then."

For now, Zidane will simply be focusing on attempting to overtake Atletico Madrid at the death to win the title.

Real's cross-city rivals sit two points ahead of them at the top with just two games of the season remaining, with Diego Simeone's team taking on Osasuna on Sunday before finishing the campaign at Valladolid next weekend while Real play Villarreal.
